The Program
May 26th to July 25th, 2025
Work toward justice in our hurting world.
Grow and be challenged in your faith.
Discern God’s call on your life, inside and outside of the church.
The Montreal Mission Internship is a 9-week program for young people who are keen on exploring a call to Christian ministry within and beyond the walls of the church, stretching their faith, and challenging themselves to discover where God is at work in difficult places. Participants will put their faith into action while witnessing the realities of our hurting world. They will be confronted by God’s call against the backdrop of one of Canada’s most vibrant, diverse, and pluralistic cities. The program is demanding, yet energizing; challenging, and life-giving all at once. Interns receive financial compensation and are expected to go into their placement with an attitude of openness, a willingness to work, and a desire to learn from the challenges God sets before them. The program has three main elements:
Service
Reflection
Discernment
Service
“Working through the summer with the children and the staff in Tyndale-St. Georges allowed me to encounter God in a way that I had never imagined before in my life. Through unexpected moments, I saw Jesus in me and the people I met in Little Burgundy. ”
The service-learning placement is the heart of the program. It is an opportunity to explore what it means to serve God in the world. Placements may include work at one of the many community-service organizations in the city responding to, for instance, homelessness, food insecurity, or migration. These placements are carefully chosen and arranged based on the participants’ interests, the quality of supervision, and the availability of meaningful work. These are paid positions.
Reflection
“The MMI program’s theological reflections helped me to see a whole new perspective on trusting God’s plan. Overall, it was an experience of a lifetime and it has helped grow my faith exponentially.”
The community of interns meets as a group on a weekly basis for learning and reflection. They take experiences from their placements and reflect on them in a practical and theological fashion. These reflections challenge interns to shift and strengthen their faith and walk with God and help them find their place as participants in God’s work.
Discernment
“MMI gave me the opportunity of a lifetime to discern my future as a young Christian. I leave this program feeling like I’m ready for the next stages of life.”
Weekly group meetings help interns to hear God’s voice and calling. Interns support each other as they each discern their unique gifts and help each other through shared challenges with the support of program staff members. It is our hope that our interns leave the program with a sense of vocation and a deeper understanding of how they can respond everyday to God’s call as they embrace the challenging work of bringing about God’s vision.

The Montreal Mission Internship is a project of the Montreal School of Theology (MST), a consortium of theological colleges, and Montreal Dio (Dio), one of MST’s constituent colleges. In collaboration with McGill University, MST offers academic programs that prepare people for Christian ministry. MMI is a program that draws on the resources of faculty and staff at MST to offer vocational discernment and service learning to more people—whether or not they are considering pastoral ministry. The goal of MMI is to help interns grow as people of faith and discover what God is calling them to in the world.
